Many progressive Christians have received a John 14:6 quote bomb from their evangelical friend. Usually it comes when they get uncomfortable with the idea that God could be at work redemptively in another religion. Their concern is genuine and it’s usually for the eternal destination of their neighbors. Regardless of how the conversation goes or how you demonstrate God’s non-partisan participation in other religious traditions even in scripture, eventually you hear them say, “but Jesus said ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life and no one comes to the Father except by me.’ If Jesus didn’t want us to think he and only he can save somebody then why did he say this?”
For those of you who are practiced at a response – SHARE IT WITH US! We would love for you to call it in and let us know how you handle the John 14:6 quote bomb. Bo and I are going to collect them and use them in an upcoming TNT episode. Just think you could be sharing your articulate and compassionate response that has been polished over the years with someone who just needs to kindly explain their understanding to their Grand Ma. If you share them with us (by calling them in) you could get a free copy of Brian McLaren‘s newest book Why Did Jesus, Moses, the Buddha and Mohammed Cross the Road? Christian Identity in Multi-Faith World. If you are interested in more about the book check out Brian’s visit to the podcast last week. It was awesome!
Thanks to Brian’s new publisher Jericho Books who hooked us up with some promotional copies we get a chance to share the love with the Homebrewed Deacons. Here’s what we need you to do…
