Since Aleica who normally doesn’t watch much news or politics I decided to put down White Beard the Pirate and come inside to watch Sarah Palin’s speech at the RNC. She wanted to see it and I have been trying to give the Republicans a shot since I watched the DNC, but I turned it off tonight when it began with a bunch of hand-raising teared up people, like a revival worship service, to a 6 minute version of God Bless America. Any way, I thought that her speech was missing point in a big way. It sounded like Rush Limbaugh and Shawn Hanity wrote it for her and packed it full of their sarcasm, exaggeration, and indigence for anyone who sees differently from them (and regular dirty Harry Reed comments). As she talked I thought two things:
1. She ‘beat’ Biden in getting the room excited and energized
2. Is this the coming of a new culture war?
I think most of the stuff with her family and the doubts of her as a women I have heard voiced are stupid reasons to vote or not vote for someone. During the speech she said a number of things about Obama’s platform that seemed wrong. For example, she acted as though Obama plans on raising the taxes on everyone when in fact he plans to cut taxes for 80% of Americans. That could lead one to think she was either only speaking to the top 20% of our country or got her info from bogus emails. But what bothered me most is her trivializing community organizers and the decision of the McCain campaign to heat up the divisive politics. Seriously though, my old prof Dr. Jonas put my real concerns in a post pretty well.
NOW, the lingering question……If she is vice-president do you think Air Force One could get put on eBay? If so, what would you bid?
