Prodigal Christianity, Rob Bell coming out, & Tony Jones’ Confusion with David Fitch

June 19, 2013 by Tripp Fuller 1 Comment

Fitch012It is time to get Prodigal with David Fitch!  Fitch and his buddy Geoff Holsclaw  just published a new book Prodigal Christianity in which they offer a trajectory for the church that differentiates itself from the contemporary emergent and neo-reformed streams.  We spend some time discussing the new book before turning to the dust storm he created when he posted on Rob Bell’s support of same-sex marriage.  Both Bo & Tony got into this discussion so I brought it up with David.  You can also see their sweet YouTube videos about the books.

Check out his BLOG, his TWITTER, his PREVIOUS PODCAST, & his NEW BOOK.

Very glad David joined the podcast again.  I shall be looking forward to his return!

Tevyn East and The Carnival de Resistance

June 11, 2013 by Callid Keefe-Perry Leave a Comment

Tevyn East

Last week Callid spent some time talking to Tevyn East, who is a Christian, performance artist, and dancer. She is the artistic vision behind Leaps and Bounds and Blood on the Cedars, dramatic shows that she wrote and starred in, touring the country with her unique integration of Ched Meyers-inspired Sabbath Economics, modern dance, poetry, and song. Currently she is at work in the development stage of The Carnival de Resistance, a communal, “traveling arts carnival, village demonstration project, and school for cultural transformation.” With plans to launch in the fall of 2013, The Carnival is currently slated to unfold in two locations – Harrisonburg VA – Sept. 13th – Sept. 22nd and Charlottesville VA – Sept 26th – Oct. 6th.

Callid talked to Tevyn about the biblical foundations of her performance work, her vision for the Carnival, and why she uses the arts to talk about theology. More info (and a chance to donate to the Carnival fund-raising campaign) is here and in the video below.

We want to thank those who donated to the show and sponsored the episodes this month. Thank you to Jay Bakker, John Pohl, as well as Susan Rogers St Laurent and Marc St Laurent.

Rob Bell HiJacks the Podcast #zesty

June 3, 2013 by Tripp Fuller 3 Comments

60444_488654401197809_202553842_nRob Bell is back on the podcast but this time he is hijacking it!

With a packed brewery full of local LA Homebrewed Deacons Rob decided to hijack the podcast and turn things around.  This time Tripp had to answer the questions.  What ensued was quite the conversation.  I am sure no one expected what happened.  So get yourself ready for some podcast excitement and don’t forget to come back next week for some more ingredients to brew your own #zesty faith.

Revelation of Darkness LIVE Event: Taylor’s F-it Theology, Rollins reaches behind the curtain

May 8, 2013 by Bo Sanders 3 Comments

PeterThis is the first half of the LIVE event featuring Rob Bell that was held at the Monkish Brewing Company.

Barry Taylor takes us on a whirlwind tour – and even though you can’t see the slides – the message comes through loud and clear! Warning: explicit language.  Then Tripp sits down to talk it through with him.

Peter Rollins does his magic and Bo gets to ask him some practical questions.

If you like these convos then check out the best snippets in the video curriculum developed that night titled ‘The Revelation of Darkness.’

Subverting the Norm LIVE and in 3-D

April 15, 2013 by Bo Sanders 6 Comments

This is a ruckus selection of audio from the HomeBrewed Christianity live event at the Subverting the Norm 2 conference last weekend. Rushmore_Poster_rev0

It begins with Barry Taylor and the Band then moves on to 4 toasts offered in honor of the 4 faces on our Mt. Rushmore style Radical Theology poster for the event. Hegel, Tillich, Derrida and Caputo are toasted by Kirsten Gerdes, Tripp Fuller, Jack Caputo and Peter Rollins.

Tony Jones sat in for Bo Sanders in ‘the Practical Seat’  and you will be able to hear how wild things got as the evening progressed.  There was also a contest between Tripp’s two new brews: the Caputo Decon-structor Ale and the John Cobb #Faniac Ale.

If Radical Theology is something that interests you, make sure to sign up for the Summer Reading-Video Conference with Tripp and Pete called “High Gravity”.

Leave us some feedback about this episode by using the little microphone on the front page in the ‘Speak Pipe’.

Homebrewed Christianity’s 5th Birthday with John Caputo #AwesomeSauce

March 13, 2013 by Tripp Fuller 1 Comment

It’s the 5th Birthday of the Homebrewed Christianity Podcast! The past 5 years have been packed full of great conversations, new ideas, and getting to connect with a ton of you, the HBC Deacons.  I am thrilled to still be rocking the podcast and bringing you some audiological ingredients for brewing your own tasty theology.

caputob0928a1a306d11e28a5622000a1fbe35_7This week we are joined for this birthday party by one of the 3 JC’s of the HBC.  We are working on Jesus Christ for episode 777 & had John Cobb for episode 101 so that leaves Jack Caputo for this milestone.

Caputo has given us an introduction to Radical Theology!  His first,  second, and third visit rocked the podcast. He shared the main-stage fun from Soularize and the 3D event with Philip Clayton, Jay Bakker, and Peter Rollins.  Even more exciting are these class lectures Caputo is sharing here at HBC.  These lectures are free theological cat nip for theology nerds.   With all this free stuff you should be wise and go pre-order his new book NOW!
