August 4, 2012 by Tripp Fuller 13 Comments

We are thrilled to drop a new podcast experiment on you! Two talented friends are here to let you have a taste of a brand new podcast we will be hosting here at Homebrewed Christianity.  Check it out, give us your input, and get ready to subscribe to their own show soon.

For now, hang with Christian Piatt and Jordan Green for the first-ever Homebrewed Culture
podcast! Listen in on their chat with Kevin Miller, director, writer and co-producer
of the upcoming movie, “Hellbound?”, which examines the doctrine of hell with a
critical eye.

Then enter the Christian Echo Chamber for some dissection of current events,
including the Aurora shooting and the recent Chick Fil A drama. Finally, take a tour
of Church Sign Epic Fails, the “best of the worst” of Christian culture.

Dig it!

This podcast makes me more interested in watching this documentary. It's being released on sept 28th in my area, can't come soon enough. Interesting perspective by an atheist on hell. I think there will be some sort of vindication but not eternal? I know bell describes the context of the words in matthew 25 as hell being described by Jesus as a period of pruning/punishment. I think c.s. Lewis hints at this notion in the 'great divorce'. What are your guys thoughts on vindication for a period of time, but not forever?

ATLAH refers to this crazy-ass preacher named James Manning who believes that God told him to rename Harlem "Atlah." Dude needs some serious meds!

I'd like to know the name of the book that was mentioned in the "Hellbound" section of the podcast. The book that the guy edited.

Does anyone know which one it is?

I like the idea of a podcast conversation dealing with current events from a faith perspective. But what struck me as I listened to it was that - once again - it is straight, white males (privileged) who are holding the microphone. Nothing against Christian and Jordan - I enjoyed the conversation - but "emergents" don't seem very intentional about breaking out of the stereo-type.

@JeffStraka I have solicitated plenty of people to create a podcast. These guys were the first to say yes to trying singeing that occupies 10-15 hrs an episode. If you know people who would like to try out some podcasting have them email me. I would really enjoy helping get mor diverse voices online!!

@trippfuller You might talk to Rachel Held Evans and Kimberly Knight, both bloggers and friends with each other. I know Kimberly personally and know she would be VERY open to podcasting!

Loved the culture podcast!

Guns and Christianity is surely a cultural question. I'm from Costa Rica and I don't know of any single Christian that owns a gun. In fact, only 3 people I know own a gun.

So for us, due to our country's culture (where we don't have an army), guns are kind of an x-rated subject. They sound terrible to our ears. And to christian ears they sound even worse.

Now I've come to become more tolerant of christians having guns because one of my brothers in law is Canadian and likes and owns guns. I used to tell him he was crazy for owning a gun. But through the years I've come to understand him a bit more. He likes guns, he used to hunt as a kid, he doesn't think it's terrible. So heck, I guess it's not.

But you know. The we're raised is like this: Guns kill, don't have guns.  : )

And from a Christian perspective, as far as self defense, I don't think people should have a gun. Can't imagine any wise man shooting people.

Jordan mentioned American Apparel alternatives based on their advertising.  I think he was suggesting other manufacturers with decent labor and environmental practices.  I was interested in getting some references to some other options out there.  Thanks
