Bonus Track: John Cobb with Lisa Domke and Scott Jones

June 17, 2012 by Tripp Fuller 2 Comments

John Cobb is back in action with this special bonus track. It’s a follow up to his recent call to secularize Christianity.  Lisa Domke and Scott Jones serve as our brilliant ministerial conversation partners. Scott was on the podcast a long time ago…episode 7 & episode 16.

In the conversation they discuss Progressive Christians Uniting, liberals failure to do theology, Wes Jackson at the Land Institute , faith and activism, economism, the ecological crisis, agriculture, food, and higher education.

Faniac is pretty strong language for an Anglican to use, but JC does make me think there is hope in the world!I've been following the podcast since about episode 10, and came to it by searching for John Cobb. I'm not really up for the cigars or the homebrew but I do love the theological goodness. Thanks to all of you who bring this to the deacons.

I think I might start singing Tripp's "Faniac" song after this episode!

At one point the question is raised about ignoring environmental issues to focus on other "more urgent" issues. This reminds me of what Tripp said last year about open and affirming churches. At first I was like, "What, you mean a church proclaiming to be open and affirming to LGBT people isn't important????" But then I realized that what you meant was that LGBT-inclusion should be a part of the larger picture of repairing this broken world. The Church needs to not only work on LGBT-inclusion (which, as a bisexual man, I'm all for!), but also on creation care, poverty, war, etc. Justice can't be a pick-and-choose thing!
