Tony Jones’ new types of Christians

August 13, 2011 by Tripp Fuller 11 Comments

Sr. Deacon – Dr. Tony Jones - has suggested leaving behind the title of Emergent, Progressive and Liberal as modifiers of “Christian”.
He has invited readers to put forward new categories of Christian and is currently holding a vote on his Patheos blog. Tripp and Bo talk through the strengths and weakness of each.

This is also an answer of what happens when Bo & Tripp light cigars and throw down….theologically speaking.

- Roger Olson’s blog (which you should subscribe to)

- Void Collective (that Brandon is a part of), Brandon’s 1st Post, Olson’s response, Brandon’s later response, Bill Walker (Bo & I’s fellow Claremont friend who we mentioned)

- Tony’s multiple blog posts to check out….incarnational Christian, initial thoughts, theology

- Stryper rocking “The Way”

Just finished listening to this podcast and wondered if Charles Taylor's term “excarnation”: “a transfer out of embodied ‘enfleshed’ forms of religious life, to those which are more ‘in the head’” might be a helpful launching point for reflecting on what it might mean to be an Incarnational Christian. ("A Secular Age", 554).

glad you liked it Jesse. i don't know if i would call it a 'ramble cast' because N&J may have ownership of the term.....oh and then there is the qualitative difference between the two!

Never mind all of this new Christian label non-sense, I just loved hearing you guys banter back and forth about this stuff! Would love to hear more theology ramble casts featuring the HBC crew ;)

What? Wait! I thought it was Rorschach from the Watchmen.

"leaving behind...Emergent, Progressive and Liberal as modifiers of 'Christian" Not a bad decision since they had, at best, very little to do with the Body of Christ anyway.

I'm not going to lie, the only link I hit this morning was the Stryper link.
