Seven-word sermon

Last week, I was involved in a “preach off” at church and was asked to give a sermon in only seven words. I was given the internet and five minutes. I was allowed to share a pic and a scripture passage. This was the result.

“There is plenty if we share.”

Scripture: Acts 2:42-47

I dropped the mic and had one word left over. I was put on the spot, and would love to hear your thoughts and feedback about what you would have done. I think it should encapsulate the gospel, and I probably would have said something different if I had been given more time.

By the way, I won the preach-off contest! My victory dance could use some guidance. I decided to go with the Carlton dance from Fresh Prince.

If you could only say seven words, what sermon would you preach? You can also share a pic.

Me, after winning the preach-off and $100:

Better yet, call in your seven-word sermon to 678-590-BREW, and we’ll play it on an upcoming podcast episode.

It's not difficult: Love God, love neighbour.

@Derek "I believe in love, lived in the context of community." That's really beautiful. Wow.

This is so awesome. A while back, I decided that my creed should be simple: "I believe in love, lived in the context of community." My sermon, modified from this: Believe in love. Live your belief communally. I don't have my scripture figured out yet, although my thoughts are pretty close to Simon's above, so I John 4 might be good. And your cartoon image is wonderful, so I see that I need to come up with a really good image!

I'm having two goes: 1) "Love love 4 Love loves U 2" Text: 1 John 4:7-16 Kind of a twitter riff on a Bruce Cockburn lyric off of Dart to the Heart - so lets leazily put the album cover up the the graphic. 2) "Its here, its really right here, now" Text Lk 4:21 You need to imagine hearing the voice of Rob Bell preaching this one - that mix of surprised intensity and geeky enthusiam. The visual would be the ultimate emergent fashion accessory - those hipster dark rimmed glasses. In fact there'd be a pair for everyone in the congregation to waer as they knowingly nod to the nerd with the Word. Love the site, love the podcasts, love Trippp and Chad to an almost inappropriate degree. Peace.
