“Theology After Google” with Spencer Burke

January 12, 2010 by Tripp Fuller 2 Comments

Spencer Burke is one sweet cookie.  Here’s is little conversation between him and philip clayton.  They discuss the nature of theology, ministry, education, communication, and other goodies in a google-shaped world.

This is just one more reason you should come to the ‘Theology After Google’ event March 10-12 in Claremont CA.

I love the vison !! Would love to be part of the event as it sounds so exciting. The challenge to us to always be listening, learning and non-judgemental is what we should do from the beginning of life to the end of our life. It has been a mantra for me all my life. I just love learning !! And yes we do find some absolutes on the way and yes we do have those wonderful ah-ha moments when something simply clicks for us. If we were not still learning and open to new things or rethinking old things we would have less of those ah-ha moments. To have your mind and heart racing with discovery is well worth the pursuit of learning. The new visions around “hosting”, I love. Theologians must be part of learning in a seminary but as was mentioned that could be made a much more powerful and excitiing experience if we become more creative, more round table discussions and sharing, more use of some of these podcasts to stimulate sharing, etc. Things could become so much more broadening and exciting if we try creative measures. Do hope that the March event will be a huge success. My prayers will be with you !!! I hope and pray that we who are involved and connected with churches and other types of community will embrace this idea of “hosting” and find new and creative ways to become “lay-theologians”. Our Sunday school classes could become more dynamic and more in the “now” than still remaining in the first century learning not just geography and history but what is God really saying to us then and now. After many years of this I am ready for something new. Our bible stories have much to say to us now not just what they said to those in the first century. I’ve said a lot about something “new” it is not just for the newness, it is for learning more about God, ourselves and all of creation. Thanks for what each of you are doing to bring us, the lay-theologians and others the latest in what others are thinking and doing. Thank you for being willing to change and allow us to be part of your community. God bless you !!!
