Marjorie Suchocki discusses Sin, Salvation, and Creative Transformation in Film: Homebrewed Christianity ep.39

January 2, 2009 by Tripp Fuller 5 Comments

What do you get if Deacon Parker of Pop Theology and Marjorie Suchocki of the International Whitehead Film Festival talk film and theology?  A great conversation!  I hope you enjoy this final episode of Homebrewed Christianity Season 1.  If you live in SoCal you should think about joining Marjorie, Ryan, and myself at IWFF in Claremont California.  Should you decide to come give me a Homebrewed Holla so we can hang out between films.

Here are some short videos I made of Marjorie talking about the IWFF.

Marjorie is simply wonderful. I would give anything to be part of her film festival. My love of films and converstation of those films makes me want to be part of something like this here. We have a Faith and Film ministry at Knollwood but it is very poorly attended. I have attended most every month and we have been going for several years. There is some discussion but very little. The folks I know are not really interested in the deeper meaning of life or God. They are more doers than thinkers. However, I am one who likes to think before doing. I like to be more informed than just a little understanding. Thank Marjorie for me for her wonderful and needed ministry. She was awesome at Knollwood when she presented a film on a narsisistic man, his son and a would be lover. Powerful film and great and deep discussion. The man wanted so badly to know the presence of God but only when he almost kills his own son does he know the presence of God. His young son has always wanted to feel God. You do not know the ending when it is over. The son feels God at the end and they sit and hold each other but no further ending. Many subjects were mentioned for the films this year, several were about letting go of sterotypes and learning Creative Transformation. With God's help when can be transformed into what God created us to be and we can be faithful friends to anyone we choose to. It is all up to us. Why do we seperate ourselves from some simply because we do not know them? We must try to communicate with everyone, take the risk, to really learn how to dance with God in the world. Jesus never met a stranger and neither should we. There are those we love more than others, we are only human, but everyone is due respect and undivided attention, eye contact and a friendly smile. We do not have to go around with a smile on our face but when we meet anyone God loves hospitality for God's children and the least thing we can do is to make eve contact and smile. There is not a person in this world who does not know the meaning of this type of greeting, etc. Marjorie/Tripp really great work.
